Intricate emotions of a tharavad

Here is a typical  Tharavad, a Kerala traditional home of the Neyarappally family of Cherthala, a small town between Kochi and Alleppey. The very sight of this house is nostalgic and romantic. A large joint family lived here, their happiness, sorrows…the person who conceived the idea of such a house, the designer, the carpenters, the masons, the painters…the weddings, the romance, births, deaths of several generations….These intricate feelings created a myriad of thoughts and emotions of our rich culture and heritage. I will go there again to feel those emotions again and to capture the internal beauty of this symphony of wood, bricks, people and the greenery.

response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Intricate.”

  1. Beautiful Tharavad! Some of our ancestral houses in Mangalore are similar, but with Portuguese styled porticos.
