About
I bought a cycle for cycling, and a camera for photography. Created this blog for expressing myself. After thousands of photographs, and around 1000 miles of cycling in and around the beautiful Kadamakudy islands, the dots started connecting themselves. People started contacting me to know more about Kadamakudy islands. Then we started walking / cycling together photographing the birds and the natural beauty of this place. While this blog started appearing in the top of google searches for ‘Kadamakudy’ , it helped to make otherwise less known Kadamakudy start appearing on the tourist maps of Kerala.
Kadamakudy islands comprises of a cluster of fourteen smaller islands like Valiya Kadamakudy, Murikkal, Palyam thuruth, Pizhala, Cheriya kadamakudy, Pulikkapuram, Moolambilly, Puthussery, Chariyam thuruth, Chennur, Kothad, Korambadam, Kandanad and Karikkad thuruthu
Through this blog, I want to share with you at least a fraction of the beauty and splendor I am experiencing at Kadamakudy, which is on the suburbs of Kochi city of Kerala state of India. I cycle through Kadamakudy almost every day, and enjoy the natural beauty of the place. The road cutting through the Kadamakudy islands is ideal for cycling. Kadamakudy is known for it’s prawn farms (Chemmeen kettu) and the paddy cultivation. Six months of the year the fields are used for prawn farming, and for the remaining six months it is used for paddy cultivation. The months of March, April and May are ideal time for bird watching. Around 75 species of birds are spotted here. Any time of the year is good for photography, especially during the golden hours. The peak monsoon rains starts from June and continues till August.
Kadamakkudy islands had a population of 15,823. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Kadamakkudy has an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 86%, and female literacy is 82%. In Kadamakkudy islands, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Valiya Kadamakudy is the main island of Kadamakudy islands.
If you are planning to visit Kadamakudy, and need any help, feel free to contact me. Every week I will be making one post in this blog, preferably on Thursdays. The bird watching and photography trips to Kadamakudy happens on the weekends, (Saturday or Sunday mornings) on my cycle. You are most welcome to join me. Thank you very much for your likes, and comments, and expect more of it in the future.
Look forward to share with you the ecstasy of Kadamakudy more and more. Will post one entry per week, either on Saturdays or Sundays.

Kadamakudy is a cluster of nine small islands at a stone’s throw away from the Kochi city. Eighty percentage of the area is used for paddy cultivation for six months and the same fields are used to grow prawns, crabs and fish. Summer (now) is the harvest time of fish. Lots of.migratory birds arrive during this time. Feb, March. April, may is the time for bird watchers and photographers. This is the time of glorious dawns and dusks. From the month of June onwards, the monsoon rains start, and the birds go away during this time.
A narrow road cutting through the middle of these paddy fields is ideal for cycling. Through Kadamakudy one can cycle to the Cherai beach and to the neighbouring islands.
Go there early in the morning, or late in the evening.
This beautiful place is slowly encroached by the land mafia. So enjoy this place as much as possible, as soon as possible.
Let me know how I can help you. I can connect you to a journalist friend of mine who can accompany you, if you want to. Let me know.
Thanks for visiting my blog
